Self Guided and Naturalist Guided Hikes

Self-guided and naturalist-guided hikes are available for those who want to explore The Ridges at their own pace or join a group. Our naturalist-guided hikes are the best way to experience The Ridges. These relaxed walks are approximately two hours long and provide an opportunity to learn about the features of the Sanctuary, our history, the Baileys Harbor Range Lights, and the diverse flora of this unique natural area. Guided hikes are suitable for all ages and are available for The Ridges Sanctuary, Appel’s Bluff, and Logan Creek. The trails are well-marked and easy to follow.

Winter Trails

Experience the peace and beauty of the winter woods in the Sanctuary! If snow cover is sufficient, our trails are well-suited for snowshoeing. You can join a Ridges naturalist on a guided hike who will share the cultural and natural history of The Ridges and swales and explore winter adaptations, search for animal tracks, and more. Snowshoe rentals are available from the Cook-Albert Fuller

Sanctuary Guided Hikes

Join a Ridges naturalist for an exploration of The Ridges Sanctuary. You’ll head out on the trails to learn about the history of The Ridges, the unique features of Sanctuary habitats, and why it is recognized as the most biologically diverse area in Wisconsin. The hike includes an Upper Range Light tour, which has been restored to the period of the last range light keeper.
