DESCRIPTION:Planting Day at Appels Bluff\n\n\n\nJoin us at Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center parking lot at 10:00 am for the Boreal Climate Survivability Tree Planting project\, a collaboration between the Climate Change Coalition of Door County and The Ridges Sanctuary. Please arrive punctually\, since we will be carpooling to Appels Bluff for this planting. This plot requires a 2-mile hike out and back. We will provide planting tools however\, come prepared to get dirty! DESCRIPTION:Night Hikes\n\n\n\nOwls\, bats\, and range lights\, oh my! Come explore The Ridges at night! We will learn about the creatures that become active after the sun goes down and check out The Range Lights at work as a navigational aid. (Please do not bring any flashlights\, light-up shoes\, etc. as we want our eyes to adjust to the dark and to be able to see just as the animals do at night).  \n\n\n\nThis program will meet outside of The Ridges Sanctuary Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center. Ridges staff will provide all hikers with a red flashlight for the duration of the hike. Restrooms are not available on the hike.  \n\n\n\nThese programs take place on Friday evenings\, with start times that shift earlier each month: 8:00 pm in August\, 7:00 pm in September\, 6:00 pm in October\, and 5:00 pm in November. Please check the specific date and time when registering. You are always welcome to call if you’d like to register over the phone or learn more about these experiences. \n\n\n\nPre-registration required. Suitable for ages 8 & up.  \n\n\n\nFee: Public $15 | Member $12 | 16 & Under $7  \n\n\n\nAccessibility Considerations: Nature Center closed\, bathrooms not available. Accessible parking. SUMMARY:Night Hikes
DESCRIPTION:Night Hikes\n\n\n\nOwls\, bats\, and range lights\, oh my! Come explore The Ridges at night! We will learn about the creatures that become active after the sun goes down and check out The Range Lights at work as a navigational aid. (Please do not bring any flashlights\, light-up shoes\, etc. as we want our eyes to adjust to the dark and to be able to see just as the animals do at night).  \n\n\n\nThis program will meet outside of The Ridges Sanctuary Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center. Ridges staff will provide all hikers with a red flashlight for the duration of the hike. Restrooms are not available on the hike.  \n\n\n\nThese programs take place on Friday evenings\, with start times that shift earlier each month: 8:00 pm in August\, 7:00 pm in September\, 6:00 pm in October\, and 5:00 pm in November. Please check the specific date and time when registering. You are always welcome to call if you’d like to register over the phone or learn more about these experiences. \n\n\n\nPre-registration required. Suitable for ages 8 & up.  \n\n\n\nFee: Public $15 | Member $12 | 16 & Under $7  \n\n\n\nAccessibility Considerations: Nature Center closed\, bathrooms not available. Accessible parking. Evening hike on boardwalk\, rustic trails\, and sandy beach with uneven surfaces. Flashlights provided\, no outdoor lighting during hike. \n\n\n\n\nRegister

DESCRIPTION:Sanctuary Guided Hike – Boreal Forests\n\n\n\nJoin a naturalist for an exploration of The Ridges Sanctuary. We’ll head out on the trails to learn about the history of The Ridges\, the unique features of the Sanctuary habitats\, and what makes the Sanctuary the most biologically diverse area in Wisconsin!  \n\n\n\nEach month’s guided hike follows a theme focusing on unique aspects of the Sanctuary:  \n\n\n\nOctober: Boreal Forests \n\n\n\nOctober hikes will feature the forest itself! The Ridges has a distinct forest type from anywhere else on the peninsula – a boreal forest. Learn about the boreal forest and why we protect it.   \n\n\n\nThis 90-minute guided hike includes a tour of our Upper Range Light\, which has been restored to the period of the last Range Light Keeper. Suitable for all ages. \n\n\n\nAccessibility Considerations: Program takes place outside on boardwalk and rustic trails. Accessible parking is available.
